Set on commanding heights between London and York, Lincoln – or Lindum Colonia – was one of the principal cities of Roman Britain.
Today, the city is the setting for a thriving 21st Century university that helps thousands of students each year to realise their potential and is home to world-class researchers who are making profound contributions to their subject areas.
From developing new medical technologies to preserving rare architectural treasures, the work of Lincoln’s academics and students makes a real difference to society.
The University of Lincoln would not have existed if it was not for the generous support and goodwill of the individuals, business and organisations who, in the mid-1990s, had the vision to create the UK’s first new city centre university campus in decades.
Lincoln is a special story about how a community came together to make changes, and it is a flagship in demonstrating how education can impact positively on a place, and the people in it.
Today, we are still striving to provide opportunities for the communities that inspired the creation of our university – 97 per cent of our new undergraduates come from state schools and colleges, and one in five is from a low participation neighbourhood.
We see them go onto achieve incredible things as graduates working for major employers locally, nationally and globally. We support others to launch their own businesses here in Lincoln, creating job opportunities for others. And through our research and links with business, we aim to stimulate the innovation and skills that can help our region flourish further.
There is more work to do. Philanthropic gifts, large and small, can help us in our mission: widening access to higher education through bursaries and scholarships, funding facilities like our new medical school, or supporting research that can positively impact the lives of people here in Lincolnshire and around the world. Your gift can make a difference.
