An optional overseas field trip to La Palma, Canary Islands, organised as part of the Cosmology and Relativity (PHY3009M) module.

The trip will take place from 12th - 19th April 2027, primarily during week 29 of Semester B. The trip will include a visit to the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, together with a range of educational and cultural activities around La Palma.

Student contribution:

The University will provide the majority of the funding for the trip. Students attending are required to make a £200 contribution towards the cost of the trip.

The £200 contribution includes:

Return flights, expected to be from Manchester Airport
Bus transportation between Lincoln and Manchester Airport on the departure and return dates
Hotel accommodation in La Palma
Half-board accommodation, including breakfast and an evening meal
Transport and transfers while in La Palma
Planned educational activities, visits and excursions during the trip
University travel insurance, including medical and personal belongings cover

A principal educational visit will be to the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, one of the world's major astronomical observatories: Roque de los Muchachos Observatory

Costs not included:

Lunches are not included, as the hotel accommodation is on a breakfast and evening meal basis. Students will also need to cover their own food and other personal expenses during the journeys to and from La Palma.

The exact flight times, airport transfer arrangements and itinerary will be confirmed nearer the time. The programme of activities is subject to change.
